Precision Injection Mold Manufacturing Processes and Materials

The manufacturing of precision injection molds necessitates the utilization of high-precision processing equipment and advanced techniques. CNC machining employs high-precision machinery to achieve micron-level positioning, enabling the precise fabrication of mold components. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is utilized to create mold cavities with complex geometries, achieving a precision tolerance of ±0.01 mm. Wire-cut EDM allows for the precise cutting of minute mold parts, with a machining accuracy reaching ±0.005 mm. Specialized processes-such as 3D printing for conformal cooling channels-are employed to optimize the mold's cooling system, thereby effectively mitigating product deformation. Furthermore, critical mold inserts undergo cryogenic treatment to ensure their dimensional stability throughout prolonged production runs.

 

Precision injection molds impose extremely rigorous requirements on materials; consequently, high-quality alloy steels-characterized by superior mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance-are typically selected. The materials used for constructing mold cavities and runners must undergo stringent heat treatment processes. The molding components, in particular, demand high hardness levels-typically required to reach approximately HRC 52. In high-end applications, hardness levels may exceed HRC 50–60 to withstand the friction and impact forces generated during high-pressure injection molding, thereby preserving the mold's precision.
