Planning a custom plastic part starts with a clear tooling brief. If you are comparing injection mold manufacturers, sending the same drawings, material requirements and production scope helps you understand what each quotation includes.
Modelon manufactures precision molds and injection-molded components. This checklist explains the information to prepare before requesting a custom injection mold quotation.
Define whether you need a mold, molded parts, or both
A mold-only project and a project that includes ongoing part production have different requirements. State who will operate the tool, where it will run and whether the quotation should include samples or production parts. If you already have a mold, identify whether the request concerns a new tool, a replacement component or an existing-tool review.
Provide drawings and the intended plastic material
Send the latest available 2D drawing and 3D model, and identify the revision. Mark critical dimensions, mating surfaces, appearance requirements and inspection criteria. A reference photograph can explain the application, but it does not replace the dimensional information needed to assess tooling.
Specify the resin grade if it has been selected, including any reinforcement or color requirement. If it has not, describe the operating environment and the properties the finished part must meet. Material choice affects shrinkage, tooling decisions and the review of part geometry; suitability must be assessed for the individual project.
State sample quantities and expected production volume
Include the number of trial parts, the expected order quantity and, when available, annual demand. Explain whether the design is still changing. These details help frame a discussion about cavity count and production planning. A higher cavity count is not automatically the right choice for every part or volume.
Include tooling and acceptance requirements
- Injection machine information and any required mold standard.
- Target sample date and the destination for the mold or parts.
- Surface finish, texture and identification requirements.
- Sample approval process and the inspection reports required.
- Tool ownership, maintenance and transfer requirements to discuss in the quotation.
Compare quotations on the same scope
Check what is included in the tooling price, what sample work is covered, how design changes are handled and which delivery terms apply. Price and schedule should be confirmed after the supplier has reviewed the actual part and requirements.
Discuss your injection mold project
Explore our precision mold products and injection molding die page. To start a project discussion, request a mold quotation with your part application, material and expected quantity. Email available drawings to jessica_huang2025@163.com. If some specifications are not yet available, explain what is known and what still needs to be decided.
